Tim McGraw’s eldest daughter, Gracie, is 20-years-old, but she’s still his little girl. So country singer wasn’t exactly thrilled when his wife, Faith Hill, announced that Gracie was going on her first date.
“Faith said, ‘I’ve met him, he’s a really nice guy, we’ve done all the research — we’ve put our Secret Service guys on him, he’s good,’” the dad of Gracie, Maggie, 19, and Audrey, 15, revealed during his Thursday, November 16, appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
The 50-year-old gave Gracie his blessing, but he asked that the suitor come by the house the next day so he could “say hi and look him in the eye,” McGraw explained to Fallon.
When Gracie’s love interest arrived, McGraw was in the kitchen prepping for a barbecue. The three-time Grammy winner had completely forgotten that the young man was coming by. “I have a white apron and a knife and I’m trimming meat,” he recalled. “So I’ve got chunks of meat all over this white apron, blood everywhere and the doorbell rings. And I go and answer the door and there’s this kid who is dating Gracie and I’ve got a knife in my hand and a bloody apron on.”
Though McGraw didn’t elaborate on what happened next, he did note that the meet and greet: “worked out really well.”
McGraw and and Hill, who have been married for 21 years, are currently touring together on their Soul2Soul world tour.
In 2015, McGraw said he was beginning to deal with his daughters bringing boyfriends around. “I mean, I have a sledgehammer. I want it to be visceral,” he joked on Rachael Ray’s talk show. “No, I’m not that tough. I mean, I try to act like I am, but I just want them to be happy. I want them to have a good time.”
