Dr. Conrad Murray is headed to jail.
The 58-year-old physician was sentenced to four years in prison on Tuesday. (Earlier this month, Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the case of Michael Jackson's June 2009 death.)
Delivering the sentence in a Los Angeles courtroom, Judge Michael E. Pastor denied Murray's defense team's request for probation; "Dr. Murray abandoned his patient," said Pastor. "This is not a simple one-off occurrence."
The Judge went on to call Murray's "gross continuing deviation" from physician's standards "a disgrace to the medical profession."
He "is and remains dangerous," said Pastor, who enforced the harshest sentence possible for Murray's charges.
Jackson's mother, Katherine, told reporters Monday she wanted her son's former physician to serve the maximum amount of time in jail. "I don't believe that he intended for Michael to die," she said. "He was just taking a chance."
Jackson, who was 50 at the time of his death, is survived by his children: Prince, 14, Paris, 13, and Blanket, 9.
