That mullet though! Howie Mandel keeps his look low key and conservative nowadays, but that wasn’t always the case. When the America’s Got Talent judge, 62, recently stopped by Us Weekly, he took a trip down memory lane to relive some of his most ridiculous style moments. Watch our exclusive video with the comedian above – “Fashion Police: When Bad Clothes Happen To Good People” – to see what he had to say about his epic looks.
In one photo from 1991, the Deal or No Deal host is sporting a mix of black and white patterns on top with navy MC Hammer-type pants on the bottom. “This is when you can’t make up your mind. Should I wear the black jacket or the houndstooth? Eh, I’ll wear both,” he reflected about what was going through his head when he got ready. “And then I had the nerve to wear that pattern with zoot suit pants. It always looks like I started getting dressed and then I changed my mind.”
His comment on the vintage photo of he and wife, Terry Mandel, both rocking pant suits at the 48th Annual Golden Apple Awards: “Looks like my wife and her accountant.”
Mandel, who recently partnered with the Take Cholesterol to Heart campaign, said, “What is this outfit that I have? It looks like a morning coat. But I promise you, it was the highest of fashion in 1988,” he said, defending his look. “I got rid of the mullet there, so this is the first time I showed up at an event without the mullet. I like to think that I am responsible for the mullet.”
