Jennie Garth is having a hard time coping with her split from Peter Facinelli, her husband of 11 years.
On The Tonight Show With Jay Leno Thursday, the 40-year-old actress opened up about her new life as a single woman. "It's unfortunate," Garth said. "It happens to the best of us. It's something that has been really tough, for sure."
"My husband and I, we grew up together, so we are very important people to each other," she added. "We have three beautiful daughters [Luca, 14, Lola, 9, and Fiona, 5]."
Citing "irreconcilable differences," Facinelli, 38, filed for divorce on March 28 — two weeks after the couple announced their split. He asked for joint legal and physical custody of their children.
After Garth addressed their impending divorce on The Tonight Show, she lightened up when talking about her new CMT reality series A Little Bit Country (premiering April 20 on CMT).
"I'd always wanted to get the hell out of L.A. I wanted to experience a different life, and I'd been in L.A. working since I was 14 or 15. I just needed some fresh air," Garth said of uprooting her children and relocating to a rural setting. "I moved my girls to the country and I put them in public school."
Garth, who calls herself "a country girl" at heart, has "a lot" of animals on her farm, including horses, dogs and cows.
"I always wanted a cow," she explained. "The weird thing is I don't even drink milk or eat meat!"
