Not every woman could stay friendly with her gay ex-husband. Then again, not every woman is Fran Drescher.
The actress and executive producer, 54, recently stopped by Us Weekly’s New York City offices to chat about the second season of her TV Land comedy Happily Divorced.
“The series is inspired by own my personal life,” Drescher explained. “I do have a gay ex-husband and we are happily divorced.” (Her former spouse, Peter Marc Jacobson, is played by John Michael Higgins.)
Drescher co-created the show with Jacobson, but unlike their characters, the two didn’t shack up together after their split. “Because of the economy, they can’t sell the house and they can’t live apart until they do. . . so they live as roommates,” Drescher said. “And hilarity ensues!”
One episode that Drescher is particularly excited about features a flashback that will show viewers “what happened in the days that preceded Peter coming out to Fran.” The second season will also feature guest appearances by Rosie O’Donnell, 50, Dan Aykroyd, 59, and Ralph Macchio, 50.
Happily Divorced airs Wednesdays at 10:30 p.m. EST on TV Land.
