Tinder doesn't want to be to blame if Team USA doesn't win a lot of medals at the 2O14 Winter Olympics in Sochi! After American snowboarder Jamie Anderson told Us Weekly she was using the dating/hookup app in the Olympic Village to check out "some cuties," Tinder co-founder Justin Mateen has issued a statement pleading with athletes to focus on the Olympic Games.
"Tinder is a great way to meet new people when you're traveling and want to get the most out of your experience in a new city, but for now, focus on giving it your all while competing," Mateen told TMZ on Thursday, Feb. 13. "Tinder will always be here when you're done."
On Monday, Feb. 10, Anderson shared with Us Weekly senior reporter Jennifer Peros what she and her fellow female athletes like to do for fun in the Olympic Village.
"Tinder!" Anderson said with a laugh. "Tinder in the Olympic Village is next level. It's all athletes! In the mountain village it's all athletes. It's hilarious. There are some cuties on there."
But Anderson quickly realized that it was best to turn the dating app off and keep her eyes on the prize. "There was a point where I had to be like OK, this is way too distracting," she confessed. "I deleted my account to focus on the Olympics."
Though she might have missed out on finding an athlete to date, Anderson can go back home to Lake Tahoe, Calif. feeling proud. She won the gold medal in the Women's Slopestyle Event on Feb. 9.
