While Game of Thrones offers plenty of eye candy when it comes to hunky men (hello, Jon Snow) and elegant, corseted gowns, the most eye-catching of all is Daenerys Targaryen's elaborately braided hairstyles.
As the end to the fourth season of HBO's hit drama approaches (the finale airs on Sunday, June 15 at 9 p.m. ET), Jason Dougherty, stylist at Butterfly Studio Salon in NYC, breaks down one of the Mother of Dragons' trademark braids and gives Us Weekly hints on how to wear the style all season.
"It's a perfect look for summer outings, whether you are off to brunch or a cocktail party," Dougherty tells Us. "Simply tuck the bottom portion of hair up into a messy bun and it's wearable both day or night."
To achieve the regal look, first part hair in the middle and take a section by the temple to be used for the top braid. Apply a light gel or serum like Shu Uemura Touch of Gloss on the crown for shine, then create an inverted braid (instead of crossing over the strand, cross under) on each side and connect in the back.
Apply Oribe Dry Texture Spray to the remaining hair and do a waterfall braid (drop the third piece after crossing over the top and pick up a new strand next to the fallen section) on both sides and connect with the first braid.
To finish, use a curling iron or wand to the rest of the hair, and backcomb for more texture, if needed.
