Farewell, Jimi Jamison. The rock singer with that indelible tenor, who fronted the '80s bands Cobra and Survivor, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 31 at age 63, his booking agent told TMZ. One day after a Survivor concert in Northern California, Jamison succumbed to a heart attack at home in Memphis, Tenn.
Survivor's Facebook page mourned the loss of "our brother" Jamison. "The entire Survivor family is very shocked and saddened.
Although Jamison did not provide vocals on Survivor's 1982 hit "Eye of the Tiger" (from the Rocky III soundtrack), he joined the band in 1984, and recorded such Survivor chestnuts as "The Moment of Truth" (from The Karate Kid), the gorgeous ballad "The Search Is Over," "Is this Love" and "Burning Heart," from the Rocky IV soundtrack.
Jamison — who performed backup vocals for groups like ZZ Top and other acts — was also the voice and co-writer behind "I'm Always Here," the Baywatch theme song. He left the group to focus on his solo career in 2006, rejoining them in 2011.
Currently in the midst of a US and European tour, Survivor has yet to announce its plans for the remainder of the tour in the wake of Jamison's death.
