He's "Just Gettin' Started!" Jason Aldean and his fiancee Brittany Kerr walked the CMT Artists of the Year red carpet together in Nashville, Tenn., on Tuesday, Dec. 2, and fans should expect many more joint appearances in the future.
The country superstar reflected back on his crazy year with Us Weekly, saying he was relieved that the buzz surrounding his relationship with the former NBA dancer has quieted down.
"This year has been a good year for us," Aldean, 37, said. "All of this… now [Brittany] can come out to shows and be normal. All the craziness around us has died down, and that's been the coolest thing about this year."
Their love saga has been well documented ever since Aldean was caught kissing American Idol contestant Kerr in an L.A. bar back in 2012 — while he was still married to his wife Jessica Ussery. The father, who shares daughters Keeley and Kendyl with Ussery, filed for divorce in April 2013. This past September, he and Kerr got engaged.
Aldean's quest "to be able to be normal" with Kerr has been filled with struggle. The "She's Country" crooner expressed his frustration to Billboard in September about the backlash he was still receiving from fans. "It has been two years of this s—," Aldean remarked of his cheating scandal. "Get over it, already!"
"I'm pretty private," he continued. "But over the last couple of years I've gotten that taken away from me, which kind of pissed me off. You know, my kids get on there and read all that. I'm not blaming anybody. Obviously, a lot of that stuff is my own deal."
With the hardest obstacles behind him, Aldean told Us that he hopes 2015 will be a year of learning. "I hope to learn a lot in 2015," he mused. "I'm still learning… a lot… about everything."
As for any progress on wedding plans? The couple admitted to Us that they haven't accomplished much just yet. "We gotta get through the holidays first," Aldean reasoned, while Kerr quipped: "My mom keeps yelling at me. She thinks I'm holding out on her, but I'm not!"
