Missing McDreamy! Ellen Pompeo, is still reeling following Patrick Dempsey‘s exit from Grey’s Anatomy, but she’s hoping Meredith Grey’s story following the death of her husband Derek Shepherd will be inspirational for fans of the show also dealing with loss.
“I have always said what keeps me going is the fans,” the actress wrote in a note she posted to Twitter, “knowing we move you and inspire you.”
Although she knows many viewers of the ABC drama are having a hard time coping with McDreamy’s death after a grisly car accident, Pompeo is dedicating her performance going forward to the men and women dealing with loss all over the world.
“There are so many people out there who have suffered tremendous loss and tragedy. Husbands and wives of soldiers, victims of senseless violence and parents who have lost children,” she wrote. “People who get up each day and do what it feels like is the impossible.”
She continued, “So it is for these people and in the spirit of resilience I am honored and excited to tell the story of how Meredith goes on in the face of what feels like the impossible. I hope you will all join me on her journey.”
Grey’s Anatomy will air a special two-hour episode on Thursday, April 30 at 8 p.m. ET that will show how the rest of Seattle Grace is dealing with the aftermath of Derek’s death.
