Foot, meet mouth. Kelly Osbourne sparked outrage on Twitter on Tuesday, Aug. 4, when she made an insensitive, racially charged comment about Latinos — ironically, while attempting to make a point about what's wrong with Donald Trump's recent remarks regarding immigrants from Mexico.
The Fashion Police alum, 30, was guest-hosting The View when Trump's immigration stance came up as a hot topic. After some back-and-forth among her co-hosts, Osbourne asked, "In what way does he think that people are going to vote for him after he's just called them rapists and murderers?"
She then went on to say, "If you kick every Latino out of this country, then who is going to be cleaning your toilets, Donald Trump?"
Her co-hosts, particularly Rosie Perez and Raven-Symone, had an immediate, visceral reaction to the comment. "Oh, that's not…No," Perez said.
Symone and Perez pointed out that "cleaning toilets" isn't the only job available to Latinos, and that people from all backgrounds clean toilets.
"I didn't mean it like that, come on," Osbourne backtracked. "I would never mean it like that. I'm not part of this argument."
Michelle Collins then piped in to assist the star. "I think what you're saying is that Trump himself probably relies on a lot of these people he's insulting," she explained.
Later, Perez spoke up in Osbourne's defense, telling viewers, "I want to apologize to this young woman once again for being overly sensitive…Kelly Osbourne is on our side, and I was sensitive. My disdain should only go to Donald Trump, so I'm sorry, darling."
"No, you don't have to apologize to me," Osbourne replied. "I love you, Rosie."
Perez also reiterated her remarks on Twitter, writing, "My apologies @KellyOsbourne, I took your point wrong – #Trump #Latinos. My bad. You're [sic] heart is so pure & righteous. I adore you."
Other Twitter users weren't quite so forgiving. After The View, Osbourne quickly became a top trending topic on the social media site, as critics blasted her for the remarks. Many also took issue with Perez, saying she shouldn't have apologized to Osbourne.

Kelly Osbourne's intentions do not matter here. She's perpetuating a stereotype, & then Rosie Perez is the one put here apologizing.

Incidentally, Osbourne was involved in another, similar controversy earlier this year, when her former Fashion Police co-host Giuliana Rancic came under fire for comments she made about Zendaya Coleman's dreadlocks. Rancic later publicly apologized for her misstep, but Osbourne was quick to distance herself from both the scandal and her colleague, and ended up leaving the show amid the fallout.
