Reunited! Tony Danza and Danny Pintauro had a mini Who’s the Boss? reunion on Wednesday, Nov. 4. The former costars both attended the 2015 Aid for AIDS My Hero Gala at Cipriani in New York City, where Pintauro was honored.
During a touching moment on stage, Danza, 54, presented Pintauro with the Courage Award for his efforts to reduce stigma and discrimination against those affected by AIDS and HIV. The former child star played the role of Jonathan on Who’s the Boss? from 1984 to 1992. Danza played the beloved role of Tony, a single father who falls in love with Pintauro’s character’s mom.
During an interview with Oprah in September, Pintauro revealed that he’s HIV positive. In a later exclusive sit-down, alongside his husband, Wil Tabares, Pintauro revealed to Us Weekly that he contracted the virus through oral sex.
“Believe it or not, with this guy I was actually safe. We did use condoms,” Pintauro explained to Us of his past partner. “I got it another way, which was through oral sex. When you put all of these nasty things together, like a compromised immune system, having been up for a long time, drugs, rough sex, all of that combined with lesions in your mouth, bodily fluids, it’s that easy.”
Pintauro, 39, who struggled with crystal meth addiction, told Us that he informed some of his costars about his diagnosis, but regrets he didn’t inform Alyssa Milano.
“I was in contact with Tony and Judith [Light] beforehand, they knew,” Pintauro said. “So they were already lending their support. I wasn’t in contact with Alyssa and I regret that now. I really should have let her know beforehand because she got just as shocked as everybody else.”
Milano told Us that she’s since been in contact with Pintauro and that she’s “very grateful for that.”
