Maybe it seemed like a good idea at the time? To imitate Lil Wayne, country superstar Jason Aldean dressed in blackface and dreadlocks for Halloween — and the Twitterverse is not happy about it.
The "Gonna Know We Were Here" singer, 38, posed in dark makeup, sunglasses and gold jewelry alongside some friends in the photo that first appeared on NashvilleGab.com on Thursday, Nov. 5.
After the photo began to be widely circulated, his rep confirmed to the Associated Press on Tuesday, Nov. 10 that Aldean was "dressed as rapper Lil Wayne for Halloween," but offered no further explanation.
So far, Aldean, who last year was named the top-selling digital male country artist, hasn't released a statement on social media about his getup, but several commenters on Twitter have criticized his costume as offensive.
"I have lost all respect for @Jason_Aldean," wrote one commenter. "It's amazing how a man with so much talent can make poor choices."
"Nobody needs to be in blackface to successfully pull off a lil Wayne costume," tweeted another.
