Alan Thicke’s son Carter posted a heartfelt tribute to his late dad on Instagram hours after he died on Tuesday, December 13.
The 19-year-old, who was playing a game of hockey with Alan when the beloved actor suffered a fatal heart attack, took to social media to express his sadness at his father’s death.
“Today I lost my best friend and my idol, and the world lost one of it's finest,” he captioned a smiling photo of him and the Growing Pains star.
“I have never known a more kind, loving, hairy, and generous person in my life and I am forever grateful for the light that this man brought to my life and so many others. You will be missed every second of every day. You are a legend and I love you Pops. Until next time.”
Carter’s older brother and “Blurred Lines” singer Robin confirmed reports that Alan suffered a fatal heart attack while enjoying a game of hockey with his teenage son.
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Robin called his father “the greatest man I ever met,” and said the showbiz veteran was “always a gentleman.”

His rep told Us Weekly: "Alan's sudden passing has been confirmed. At present we have no further details.”
