On to the next chapter. Mariah Carey briefly spoke about her split from fiancé James Packer during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday, November 23.
“You had a highly publicized relationship and you were engaged, and you were trying on wedding dresses in [your] docuseries — we see the behind the scenes of that, which is pretty personal. And now you’re not together anymore,” DeGeneres, 58, said.
“Now it’s a whole friggin’ thing,” Carey interjected. Asked how she’s feeling “mentally” and whether she’s “happy,” Carey replied, “I think I’m doing well. … Everything happens for a reason. Things are the way they are.”
Late last month, Us Weekly confirmed that the “We Belong Together” singer and Packer, 49, ended their relationship two weeks after a trip to Mykonos, Greece. “It was like Jekyll and Hyde,” a Carey pal told Us exclusively. “Suddenly he’s like, ‘I don’t think I can do this.'”
The pair began dating in June 2015, and the Aussie casino mogul proposed with a 35-carat diamond engagement ring in January.
“It’s kind of difficult to talk about it at this moment, so I’m just going to compliment you on these decorations once again,” Carey told DeGeneres on Wednesday.
Following the split, Packer was taken out of some promos for Carey’s upcoming E! series, Mariah’s World. “He didn’t want to be in the docuseries at all,” DeGeneres said. “And yet he’s in it. You see him.”
“Allegedly,” Carey said, without going into detail.
