Great minds! Duchess Kate and Prince Harry‘s new girlfriend, Meghan Markle, have yet to meet, but we think they’ll see eye to eye — sartorially at least — once they do. As it turns out, they’ve both stepped out in the same lace dress.
Back in 2014, the Duchess of Cambridge, 34, chose Diane von Furstenberg’s Zarita dress for the Royal Variety Performance at the London Palladium. (While it’s now sold out, the dress retailed for $900.) She accessorized the floor-skimming style with dangling diamond hoops and a beaded vintage bag by Magid.
But as it turns out, Markle, 35, actually donned the dress first! The Suits actress showcased her toned legs in a cropped version of Kate’s stunner, only in a navy. (The dress is still available at dvf.com for $348.) She teamed it with nude Christian Louboutin pumps and a gold charm bracelet. While the Duchess completed her ensemble with a chic chignon, Markle opted for Kate’s go-to style: a bouncy blowout with curled ends.
Though the dress showcased Markle’s athletic physique, it seems she wasn’t particularly fond of it. “I was going to this event and there was this DVF lace dress with a zipper up the back, and it was so fitted, and had tea length sleeves. … I bought one in navy and black,” Markle told Glamour U.K. in October, discussing a cringe-worthy fashion moment. “It was too tight, and too short, and my hair was too polished, and everything about it was trying too hard.”
Markle, who, the palace confirmed, has been dating the prince, 32, for a few months, continued, “I think as you get older you feel more confident and you don’t need to put that much effort in — to be able to throw your hair up in that very French way doing things. If your outfit is on point, one thing has to be off for you to look perfect.”
Still, we think both ladies stunned in the style. But the question goes to you: Who wore it best? Tell Us in the Stylish poll below!
