So. Much. Blood. It took a strong stomach and nerves of steel to watch the season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead on Sunday, October 23, and not let out a whimper in shock.
If you haven’t yet seen the handiwork of baseball-bat wielding Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), here’s a warning: In the words of Norman Reedus, grab “a blankie, hold the hand of someone you care about,” ’cause this was “a heavy episode.”
Spoiler alert: Negan brought his barbed wire–covered bat, Lucille, down on the heads of Abraham and Glenn, but the horror didn’t end there. (Check out Us Weekly‘s recap for the five moments that made us gasp, cry and puke.)
Walking Dead fans took to Twitter on Sunday night to express their emotions and offer each other a consoling virtual hug.
“My body felt numb after watching that very emotional & climatic scene,” one person tweeted. “#Negan is one demented dude.
“Never been so traumatized in my life!” wrote another.
A few people feared that he would be the inspiration for more than one Halloween costume.
“If your boyfriend dresses as #Negan this #Halloween that’s one sign y’all need to break up,” wrote one fan.
Others found it hard to believe that the actor they’d loved as Katherine Heigl‘s love interest on Grey’s Anatomy was now a psycho killer.
“Izzy would not be pleased with Denny’s afterlife actions,” one avid TV watcher tweeted.
A few fans found a way to link The Walking Dead with the presidential election.
“Please someone tell #Negan that Rick & the crew are hiding inside Trump Tower! Thank you!” tweeted another fan.
Frozen star Josh Gad asked, “What’s the over/under that Trump is desperately trying to get #Negan to run his campaign for the final stretch?”
