Hello there, little one! Laura Benanti‘s baby bump made its official red carpet debut at the opening night of her new show, Tales from Soprano Isle, at the Cafe Carlyle in NYC on Tuesday, September 27.
The Tony-winning actress, 37, wore a custom, garnet Anne Barge Black Label dress with an Art Deco–inspired embellished neckline. She accessorized the ensemble with black pointed-toe pumps.
“Thank you @AnneBargeBride for this custom dress for my opening last night @TheCarlyleHotel!” Benanti tweeted, then added directly to Barge, “Anne, thank you for making me the most BEAUTIFUL dress, photos to come!!” (She added a heart emoji.)
The Supergirl actress announced via Twitter that she was expecting her first child — a baby girl! — with husband Patrick Brown. Captioning a photo of herself and her husband reading the famed baby-on-the-way book What to Expect When You’re Expecting, the five-time Tony nominee wrote, “Doing a little research with @impbrown! Coming this winter…#BabyGirlBrown.”
The happy news came almost one year after Benanti revealed in an op-ed post for the Huffington Post that she had had a miscarriage. “The day I found out I was pregnant was the happiest day of my life,” she wrote. “I had wanted to be a mom for a long time, and at 36 it was finally happening. When my fiancé, Patrick, and I first saw and heard our little peanut’s heartbeat, a wave of love washed over me that I had not known was possible.” She then detailed her loss, but also her desire to make miscarriages something that are discussed more openly.
