In case you were wondering, President Obama gets himself hyped for important events and speeches the same way we do — to the beat of Eminem’s 2002 hit “Lose Yourself.”
In a behind-the-scenes video of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia released on Thursday, August 4, the Commander in Chief can be seen bopping his head along to Eminem’s bass-heavy track with staff members, presumably to prepare himself for his rousing DNC speech.
“His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy / There’s vomit on his sweater already, mom’s spaghetti,” the lyrics go. “He’s nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready / To drop bombs, but he keeps on forgettin’ / What he wrote down, the whole crowd goes so loud.”
The clip, which has gone viral online, also features Obama, 55, checking with former President Bill Clinton that it was alright that he dissed the both of them during his speech, noting that Hillary is far more qualified than either of them.
“Bill Clinton, I hope you don’t mind me saying, ‘She’s a little more qualified than you,’” Obama says as he and Bill, 69, walk through a door into a green room backstage. “I included myself in that category, so …”
“She was. I loved it,” the former president responded with a laugh. “You kidding? I was up there laughing and clapping.”
Exactly one year ago, Obama released his Spotify playlist to the public, and the eclectic mix included Al Green, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder, as well as Coldplay.
