It’s crunch time for Olympians, with just three weeks until the August 5 Opening Ceremony in Rio de Janeiro.
Since the Team USA swim team was named just a few weeks ago, the athletes have been busy preparing for the Summer Games at a training camp in San Antonio.
Michael Phelps, who is preparing for his fifth Olympics, took a break from the pool to do a Facebook Live video on July 15, and he brought in his friend and rival Ryan Lochte to say hi.
Despite the fact that the two men have 33 Olympic medals between them, fans wanted to know if the swimmers were playing the popular new game Pokémon Go.
“I don’t play Pokémon. Do you play Pokémon?” Phelps — who has his own video game, Michael Phelps: Push the Limit — asked Lochte.
“I got suckered into playing Pokémon!” Lochte admitted. “But I’m only on level 2. Gotta catch up!”
The former reality personality, 31, is among the more than 15 million people who have downloaded the app in a quest to catch ’em all.
“I’m pretty good at video games. I’ve been playing video games my whole life,” Lochte told GamerLive TV in 2012, adding that as a child he loved “old-school Nintendo.”
“I used to play that track-and-field game where you run on the pad,” recalled the Ralph Lauren–sponsored athlete who is going into his fourth Olympics. “I remember playing that all the time.”
Lochte has shared his love of playing games with the world before. Shortly before the 2012 Games in London, the 11-time Olympic medalist shared a perfect photo of him snuggled with his nephew, Zaydin, while playing a game shirtless.
