A new development. The wife of Omar Mateen, the gunman who killed 49 people at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, could be charged, NBC reports.
According to NBC, Noor Zahi Salman told the FBI that she once drove Mateen to the popular gay club to scope it out and she was on hand when he bought ammunition and a holster. Additionally, she allegedly pleaded with Mateen to not do anything violent the night of the mass shooting BUT didn't warn police about her suspicions.
Salman has not yet been charged, but remains still under investigation. For now, she continues to cooperate with authorities.
As previously reported, Mateen, who also injured 53 others, reportedly called 911 to pledge his allegiance to ISIS before the attack.
Mateen's ex-wife, Sitora Yusufiy, has come forward since the tragedy as well. On Monday, she claimed in a new interview with Brazilian TV station SBT Brazil that he had "homosexual tendencies."
"I don’t know," she responded when asked if Mateen was gay. "He never personally or even physically made any indication while we were together of that, but he did feel very strongly about homosexuality."
According to Pulse patrons, Mateen was a frequent visitor of the nightclub. "When we had gotten married, he confessed to me about his past that was recent at that time and that he very much enjoyed going to clubs and the nightlife and there was a lot of pictures of him," Yusufiy told SBT Brazil. "I feel like it’s a side of him or a part of him that he lived but probably didn’t want everybody to know about."
