One gown to rule them all! Prom season is all about dressing to impress, but one frock has been standing above the rest in 2016.
Needle & Thread's pink, strappy, backless, tulle-embellished maxidress is the most purchased gown for prom this year, according to data from e-commerce site Lyst, provided to Us Weekly. The $300 empire-waisted design has sold 67 percent more than other dresses and includes a sequined bodice, scoop neckline, adjustable straps and a tulle-lined skirt in a blush-beige color. The style is sold out in some sizes, but still available in 4, 8, and 10 at asos.com.
"Girls are looking specifically for blush tones and metallics more than any other color," Kelly Agnew, senior fashion editor at Lyst, tells Us. "This Needle & Thread dress fits the bill perfectly. No wonder everyone’s buying it!”
The popular garment applies most of this year's hottest prom search terms, according to Lyst, including "embellished," "full-length dresses" and "blush pink." Navy and baby blue dresses comprised 50 percent of dress sales, and cap sleeves accounted for one-third of purchases. And as for the most popular designer brands, that honor belongs to Marchesa, Halston and David Meister.
Another hard-hitting prom fact? On average, girls spent $750 on prom dresses in the U.S., compared to a much smaller $450 in the U.K.
