Just him against the music! Clark Gregg traded his suit and tie for a cutout halter romper to perform Britney Spears‘ 2003 hit “Toxic” on the Thursday, April 21, episode of Spike TV’s Lip Sync Battle.
The actor — who plays Phil Coulson on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. — channeled his inner pop diva for the performance, donning a near replica of the blue and silver flight attendant’s uniform (but not, sadly, that diamond-encrusted bodysuit) that Spears herself wore in the “Toxic” music video.
Joined by a team of backup dancers in similarly skimpy outfits, the Avengers star shimmied and strutted around the stage, which had been made to look like the inside of a plane, complete with several rows of seats and a beverage cart.
Gregg will go up against Agent Carter‘s Hayley Atwell, one of his rivals in the now-famous Comic Con Dubsmash wars between their respective Marvel Universe shows. Gregg and his costar Chloe Bennet challenged Atwell and Smash alum/Broadway veteran Brian d’Arcy James to a lip sync battle on the app — and things quickly spiraled out of control.
The teams went back and forth for several days, taking on tunes including Queen’s “We Are the Champions,” Taylor Swift‘s “Bad Blood,” Rihanna‘s “Bitch Better Have My Money” and Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock‘s “It Takes Two.”
