Caitlyn Jenner regrets not confiding in her father. The transgender star, 66, became emotional while talking about her late father, William, at the University of Pennsylvania on Wednesday, February 17.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Jenner — who was born Bruce — told the audience that she never told her late father the truth about her gender identity.
“That will always haunt me," the Olympic gold medalist said, while wiping away tears. "I think eventually he would have come around. He would have never understood, he didn't know anything — gay, trans, all that other stuff. But I'm sure he's looking down from heaven right now and saying, 'Well, you're doing a good job.'"
William, a World War II veteran, died in 2000.
As documented on I Am Cait, Jenner’s mom, Esther, has been super supportive.
Buzz Bissinger, who wrote Jenner’s Vanity Fair cover story, moderated the Q&A panel, during which Jenner also touched upon when she contemplated suicide before she was ready to publicly announce her transition.
"[I thought,] 'Just take yourself out,’” the I Am Cait star told the crowd. "But then I thought: What a horrible way to end my story."
Season 2 of I Am Cait premieres March 6 on E!
