More than just a label? Taye Diggs is a guest on Kocktails With Khloé‘s Wednesday, February 17, episode, where he discusses the recent flap over his description of his son Walker‘s racial background.
In a preview clip from the episode, host Khloé Kardashian asks the Rosewood actor, 45, about the negative feedback he received online following his interview with TheGrio.com from November. Diggs, who was promoting his children’s book Mixed Me! at the time, said he would rather people refer to his six-year-old son as “mixed” than “black.” Walker’s mom — Frozen‘s Idina Menzel — and Diggs divorced in 2014 after 11 years of marriage.
“I was promoting the book and saying how … my son is mixed, and I want him to be proud of both sides of his lineage,” Diggs tells Kardashian.
“Certain people thought that I was turning my back on the black side,” he continues. “I think it was just misconstrued. I have a lot of mixed friends who consider themselves black, but to me there’s ethnicity, and then there’s identity. Ethnicity you can’t really argue — my son is half white and half black.”
