Making history! Gwen Stefani recorded her music video for new song “Make Me Like You” during a Grammys commercial break — and she’s the first artist to do so.
The No Doubt frontwoman teamed up with Target to pull off the near impossible. In the Sophie Muller–directed live video, Stefani struts her stuff in a salon, rides on a scooter and rollerblades with pals.
The new single was released on Friday, February 12, and the lyrics are pretty obviously about her boyfriend, Blake Shelton. The song, penned by the 46-year-old herself, includes the lines, “I was fine before I met you / I was broken but fine / I was lost and uncertain / But my heart was still mine … Now you’re all I see.”
In the video, Shelton also gets a discreet shoutout. During one scene, the bar appears to be named “Blake’s” after the country crooner. The two first stepped out together over Halloween weekend, following their respective divorces. In November, Stefani’s rep confirmed exclusively to Us that they’re dating.
Target — which got less-direct shout-outs in the video — is also offering fans a deluxe version of her upcoming album, This Is What the Truth Feels Like. The album will feature four exclusive bonus tracks titled “Rocket Ship,” “Getting Warmer,” “Obsessed” and “Splash.”
This Is What the Truth Feels Like drops March 18. Check out the video above!
