What was that?! Jonah Hill, dressed up as the bear from The Revenant, gave a bizarre speech — most of which was bleeped out — prior to announcing the winner of the Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture award at the 2016 Golden Globes on Sunday, January 10.
“Jonah is so sorry he can’t be here tonight,” Hill’s 22 Jump Street costar Channing Tatum said by way of introduction. “We did, though, find a very, very special substitute from The Revenant: the bear.”
Hill appeared on stage next to Tatum in a tux and a bear mask, joking in character as the animal in Leonardo DiCaprio‘s film. “I have notoriously done zero press for the film. I’m a Daniel Day or Tom Hardy type of actor that doesn’t like my face out there that much,” Hill told the crowd. “I would like to thank Leonardo, my costar . . . and of course, my director, Alejandro [González Iñárritu]. I’m a 2-year-old bear from the Sierra Mountains. You took a chance on me and I honestly — I don’t forget it, pal, I don’t forget it.”
On Hill’s jacket was a green ribbon, which he told the crowd was “for honey awareness.” Then the censors kicked in … several times.
“I’m a bear and honey is [bleep] delicious!” he told the crowd before the pair announced the nominees, including a totally unimpressed Jane Fonda. GIFs and photos quickly emerged on the internet of the Youth actress giving a stern look while her date’s jaw dropped in a completely shocked expression.
Hill’s jokes didn’t stop there. He continued rambling as he was censored during the live broadcast. At the end, Hill concluded: “There are some studio heads I wouldn’t mind taking a swipe at later tonight! But don’t be mad because don’t forget I’m a bear! I don’t [bleep] care!”
Insiders at the Beverly Hilton hotel tell Us Weekly that Hill was censored for saying “f–k” repeatedly.
