Peter Robbins, a former child actor who voiced Charlie Brown in numerous classic Peanuts specials, was sentenced to four years and eight months in prison on Monday, Dec. 7.
Robbins, 59, pleaded guilty last month to charges of making criminal threats, telling a San Diego courtroom that he had hired someone to kill Sheriff William Gore. He also admitted that he threatened the manager of a mobile home park.
At the time, he told the judge that he had previously been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and paranoid schizophrenic disorder, and that jail time wouldn’t help him, according to the Los Angeles Times.
“I’m mentally ill,” Robbins — who was arrested in September at his home in Oceanside, Calif. — said. “I’ve committed no crime.”
This isn’t the first time the former child actor has been sentenced to jail. In 2013, Robbins pleaded guilty to threatening an ex-girlfriend and her plastic surgeon, and he was sentenced to probation — only to violate probation and subsequently serve four months in jail.
Robbins voiced Charlie Brown in several classic 1960s Peanuts TV specials, including A Charlie Brown Christmas, which marked its 50th anniversary last week.
