About

Chappell Roan, born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, is an American singer-songwriter born on February 19, 1998 in Willard, Missouri.

At the age of 17, Roan uploaded a video of herself singing an original song, “Die Young,” to YouTube. Shortly after she was signed to Atlantic Records and released her debut EP in 2017 called School Nights. Her breakthrough was in 2020 when she released her single Pink Pony Club. After taking a short break from her music career, she independently released a series of songs before dropping her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess through Island Records in 2023.

The album had a commercial breakthrough in 2024 amid her being a supporting act on Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts World Tour and her songs “Good Luck, Babe!” and “Hot to Go!” going viral on TikTok. By June of 2024, the album climbed to top five on the U.S. Billboard 200 and Australia charts and reaching No. 1 in Ireland, New Zealand and the U.K. In September 2024, Roan won the Best New Artist Award at the MTV Video Music Awards. She was nominated for six Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist and Album of the Year.

Roan grew up in a Christian household, but she has stated that she no longer identifies with the church and her relationship with religion is “evolving.” She has shared that she is no longer dating men and identifies as lesbian. In August 2023, Roan confirmed she was dating a woman whose name she did not disclose.
