
Darius Rucker
Darius Rucker is a Grammy-winning singer and songwriter best known as the lead vocalist of Hootie & the Blowfish and for his solo career in country music. Rucker spent his childhood in Charleston, South Carolina, where he attended the University of South Carolina. During his time in college, he met future Hootie & the Blowfish bandmates Jim “Soni” Sonefeld, Dean Felber and Mark Bryan.
Rucker rose to fame in the mid-1990s as the frontman of Hootie & the Blowfish. The band’s 1994 debut album, Cracked Rear View, included hit singles like “Only Wanna Be with You” and “Let Her Cry.” In the 2000s, Rucker transitioned to country music. His 2008 solo album Learn to Live produced three No. 1 hits, including “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It.”
He became the first Black artist since Charley Pride to top the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. He has since released several successful albums and won multiple awards, including a Grammy for Best New Artist with Hootie & the Blowfish and another for Best Country Solo Performance.
Rucker married Beth Leonard in 2000. The couple separated in 2020. They share children Daniella (born in 2001) and Jack (born in 2004). Rucker also has a daughter, Carolyn (born in 1995), from a previous relationship. In 2025, he got engaged to Emily Deahl after one year of dating.
