Deion Sanders is a former professional football and baseball player and the head coach of the University of Colorado football team. Sanders attended North Fort Myers High School before playing football, baseball and running track at Florida State University. He earned All-American honors and won the Jim Thorpe Award in 1988 before entering the NFL.

Sanders was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in 1989 and went on to play for teams including the San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens. During his time with the league, he won two Super Bowl titles, and he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011. He also played Major League Baseball for nine seasons with the New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds and San Francisco Giants. He retired from baseball in 2001 and later retired from football in 2006.

The athlete began his collegiate coaching career at Jackson State University in 2020. He remained with the team for three seasons before being named the head coach at Colorado State University, where he coached sons Shilo Sanders and Shedeur Sanders.

In addition to his athletic career, Sanders has worked as a sports analyst and starred on the reality TV show Deion’s Family Playbook from 2014 through 2015.

Sanders married Carolyn Chambers in 1989, and the couple welcomed children Deiondra Sanders and Deion Sanders Jr. before their split in 1998. He later moved on with Pilar Sanders, and the pair share children Shilo, Shedeur and Shelomi. He was then in a long-term relationship with Tracey Edmonds, but the twosome called off their engagement in 2023.
