About

Gypsy Rose Blanchard is a media personality known for her role in the 2015 murder of her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard, and the years of alleged abuse that preceded the crime. Her story has inspired multiple documentaries and television series, while her life after prison has drawn continued public attention.

Blanchard was raised primarily by her mother after her parents separated. Dee Dee claimed her daughter suffered from numerous medical conditions, including leukemia and muscular dystrophy, and subjected her to medical treatments and the use of a wheelchair and feeding tube. Her childhood later became central to allegations that her mother had fabricated or induced illnesses in her daughter.

In 2015, Blanchard conspired with her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, to kill Dee Dee. After pleading guilty to second-degree murder in 2016, she was sentenced to 10 years in prison. She served more than eight years before being released on parole in December 2023. Her case inspired the HBO documentary Mommy Dead and Dearest and Hulu’s dramatized series The Act, starring Joey King. After her release, Blanchard appeared in the Lifetime docuseries The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up.

Blanchard married Ryan Anderson, a Louisiana teacher, in 2022 while incarcerated. The couple separated in March 2024 and finalized their divorce later that year. She rekindled her relationship with former fiancé Ken Urker, whom she first met through a prison pen-pal program. They welcomed their daughter, Aurora, in 2024. Blanchard and Urker later separated but continued coparenting. Urker died on October 1, 2026, at age 34.
