Josh Charles is an Emmy-nominated actor best known for his roles on Sports Night and The Good Wife. Charles spent his childhood in Baltimore, Maryland, and developed an interest in performing at a young age. He began doing stand-up comedy at age 9 and later studied at the Baltimore School for the Arts, pursuing acting full time upon graduating.

Charles made his film debut in 1988’s Hairspray, and his breakout came a year later playing Knox Overstreet in Dead Poets Society (1989). He went on to appear in Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead (1991) and Threesome (1994) before gaining critical acclaim for his role as sports anchor Dan Rydell on the ABC series Sports Night, which aired from 1998 to 2000.

He later appeared as Will Gardner on CBS’s The Good Wife. His role earned him two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series. His other notable roles include S.W.A.T. (2003), Four Brothers (2005), Away and Mothers’ Instinct (2024). He has also appeared in a handful of stage productions and music videos, including for Taylor Swift’s “Fortnight.”

Charles married Sophie Flack, a former ballet dancer and author, in 2013. The couple welcomed a son in 2014, and a daughter in 2018.
