
Kelly McGillis
Kelly McGillis graduated in 1983 from the Juilliard School before securing her breakout role as an Amish mother in 1985’s Witness, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination. Following the success of Witness, McGillis appeared as Tom Cruise’s love interest in 1986’s Top Gun. She continued to star in popular films such as 1987’s Made in Heaven, 1988’s The House on Carroll Street and The Accused, 2010’s Stake Land, 2011’s The Innkeepers and 2013’s We Are What We Are. McGillis has also guest-starred in various TV shows, including The L Word in 2008 and Dirty John in 2020.
Aside from her work in film and TV, McGillis has been in several on-stage productions, including playing the titular role in Hedda Gabler on Broadway in 1994 and touring the United States in the play Mrs. Robinson in 2004.
McGillis was married to fellow Juilliard student Boyd Black from 1979 to 1981. After their split, McGillis tied the knot with Fred Tillman in 1989. They welcomed daughters Kelsey and Sonora in 1990 and 1993, respectively, before divorcing in 2002. After coming out as lesbian in 2009, McGillis entered into a civil union with Melanie Leis. The twosome later split in 2013.
