About

Scott Hoying is a singer, songwriter and producer best known as a founding member of the Grammy-winning a cappella group Pentatonix and half of the duo Superfruit. Born in Arlington, Texas, Hoying first met future Pentatonix members Mitch Grassi and Kirstin Maldonado in high school. He studied at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music before leaving to pursue music full-time.

Hoying rose to fame in 2011 after forming Pentatonix with Grassi, Maldonado, Avi Kaplan and Kevin Olusola. The group won Season 3 of NBC’s The Sing-Off, gaining national attention for their tight harmonies and pop covers. Their YouTube channel grew rapidly, leading to global tours and multiple platinum albums. Throughout their career, Pentatonix has won three Grammy Awards, including Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella for their renditions of “Daft Punk” and “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.”

In addition to Pentatonix, Hoying formed the duo Superfruit with Grassi, releasing the EP Future Friends in 2017. In 2023, he released his debut solo EP Parallel and has continued performing as part of Pentatonix’s ongoing tours. He’s also appeared in Pitch Perfect 2 (2015) and various TV specials.

In 2025, Hoying joined the season 34 cast of Dancing With the Stars.

Hoying married model Mark Manio in July 2023 after dating for over six years.
