Timothy Busfield is a director and actor. Born in Lansing, Michigan, in 1957, he worked as an understudy to Matthew Broderick in Brighton Beach Memoirs before moving to Los Angeles and finding success in Hollywood.

During his career, Busfield secured roles on TV shows such as The West Wing. In 1991, he received an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his performance in Thirtysomething.

Busfield also had the opportunity to work behind the scenes on several shows and serve as a director on episodes for Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, The Night Shift and The Cleaning Lady.

In April 2013, Busfield married The Little House on the Prairie actress Melissa Gilbert. Before then, he was married to fashion designer Jenny Merwin from 1988 to 2007. During their relationship, the pair welcomed two children together.

Busfield’s first marriage was to Radha Delamarter. The duo were married from 1982 to 1986 and they share one son together.

In January 2026, Busfield made headlines when he faced an arrest warrant amid allegations of child sex abuse. He surrendered himself to law enforcement in New Mexico and strongly denies the allegations.
