About

Tony Hawk (born Anthony Frank Hawk) is a retired professional skateboarder and entrepreneur. As a child, Hawk was involved in numerous sports before being gifted a skateboard at age 9. He began competing in the sport two years later.

The skater began his professional career at age 14 and quickly gained attention for his dauntless nature. He won 12 consecutive National Skateboarding competitions and accrued numerous sponsors during his early career, including Dogtown Skateboards, Sundeck and Vans.

1999 was a standout year for Hawk; he made history by being the first skater to land the 900 trick and began his video game franchise in collaboration with Activison the same year. He completed the trick at the 1999 X Games before announcing his retirement from competition. Hawk skated professionally until 2003.

A resurgence in skating popularity helped to make Hawk mainstream, and as a result he has appeared as himself on shows like The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and Celebrity Wheel of Fortune. He has also toured the country with other famous skaters.

Hawk founded the company Birdhouse Projects in 1999, and he later founded Hawk Clothing. From 2004 to 2019, he hosted a segment on SiriusXM radio titled Tony Hawk’s Demolition Radio, and from 2021 to 2024, he hosted a podcast with skater Jason Ellis called Hawk vs. Wolf.

From 1990 to 1993, Hawk was married to Cindy Dunbar. The couple share a son, Riley, born in 1992. Three years after their divorce, he tied the knot with Erin Lee. The couple welcomed sons Spencer (born in 1999) and Keegan ( born in 2001) before their split in 2004.

Hawk was married to Lhotse Merriam from 2006 to 2011. They share a daughter, Kandace, born in 2008. The skater wed Catherine Goodman in 2015.

Hawk became a grandfather in September 2024 when son Riley and wife Frances Bean Cobain (daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love) welcomed son Ronin Walker.
