Aaron Hernandez’s former fiancée, Shayanna Jenkins, shared a hopeful announcement one year after the NFL player’s death.
Jenkins, who shares 5-year-old daughter Avielle with the late athlete, revealed that she is pregnant with her second child.
“Many of you have had speculated that I may be expecting another miracle with is very accurate,” she captioned an Instagram photo of herself cradling her baby bump on Tuesday, May 22. “I wanted to take time and process and post when I was ready to. I wanted to have a moment for myself alone with my daughter … we are beyond excited about the new addition and chapter we will begin soon.”
Although Jenkins didn’t disclose the father’s identity, she expressed that Avielle is “prepared to become the best big sister.” She added: “Mommy and sissy will continue to wait patiently for your arrival. I thank everyone for the continued support and appreciate the respect for our privacy that has been shown.”
Jenkins and Hernandez got engaged in October 2012 and welcomed their daughter one month later. The former Patriots player was arrested in June 2013 in connection to the death of fellow football player Odin Lloyd. He was convicted of first-degree murder in 2015 and was serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole until he died by suicide in April 2017.
According to TMZ, Hernandez left a note for Jenkins before taking his own life. “You have always been my soul-mate and I want you to love life and know I’m always with you,” he reportedly wrote. “I love you so much and know you are an angel.”
