Diaper duty continues! Jimmy Kimmel and his wife, Molly McNearney, are expecting their second child together. The proud dad announced the news during Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday, December 5, after news broke that he would also be hosting the Academy Awards for the first time in February.
“And also, my wife is hosting a baby inside her body. So that’s exciting,” the comedian told the audience. “We got the ultrasound, which is weird because you’re spying on the baby … but we asked the technician not to tell us whether we’re having a boy or a girl. Our plan is to let the child decide for itself.”
That means Kimmel and McNearney, who is co-head writer on the show, have to come up with a unisex baby name, he told the crowd. “We want that to be a surprise, but I have been trying to think of names that would work for a boy or girl,” he said. “So far, I’ve come up with two: No. 1, Dyson after the vacuum, or Jelatin with a J. No? That’s exactly what my wife said.”
“So there’s a lot of exciting stuff going on. Congratulations to me. I’m hosting the Oscars and I had sex. Two things as a teenage boy I never thought would be possible,” he joked.
Kimmel, 49, and McNearney, 38, married since 2013, are already parents of daughter Jane, 2. He’s also dad to son Kevin and daughter Katherine, both in their twenties, from his first marriage to costume designer Gina Maddy.
Screenwriter McNearney showed off her growing baby bump in a bikini during a recent family vacation in Hawaii. In the pics, obtained by the Daily Mail, she held Jane while Kimmel took photos of them on the beach.
Kimmel often shares cute parenting stories during his late-night show. In May, he joked that Jane ruined Mother’s Day and snapped photos of a family dinner outing to prove it.
“Jane decided to celebrate Mother’s Day by making my wife wish she had no kids. [Jane] wouldn’t eat. She wouldn’t sit still. She had no crayons. They had no high chairs,” he said at the time.
“Look at my wife’s face,” he added, pointing out McNearney’s pained face. “She did not let us relax for one second.”
In October, Kimmel even included Jane in his annual “I Told My Kids I Ate All Their Halloween Candy” prank. The little one didn’t seem to care. Instead of throwing a fit, she asked if her famous dad could make pancakes for breakfast.
