This romantic weekend is over. Bella Hadid and The Weeknd (ne Abel Tesfaye) have split. The couple called it quits after almost two years together. According to a source, their schedules are to blame.
"They still have a great deal of love and respect for each other and will remain friends, but it has been too hard to coordinate their schedules with him finishing and promoting his upcoming album,” a source close to the “Starboy” singer tells Us Weekly. “They really tried to make it work."
Hadid, 20, and The Weeknd, 25, first met when the Grammy winner asked her to model for the artwork his breakthrough album Beauty Behind the Madness back in April 2015. The model, who is the younger sister of Gigi Hadid and daughter of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ Yolanda Hadid, also starred in his music video for “In the Night.” "My motive was literally to work with her,” The Weeknd later admitted to Rolling Stone.
The pair first stepped out together publicly at the 2016 Grammys. Us exclusively confirmed the pair were dating in May 2015.
“I’m dating Abel,” Hadid then confirmed to Glamour magazine in August. “I don’t see him as The Weeknd. I’m proud of The Weeknd and the music he makes, but I really love Abel.”
The duo were last photographed together in Tokyo last month. They’ll next appear together during the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show which will tape on November 30 in Paris and air in December. The Weeknd is performing and Bella is walking in the show.
