Just a day after Brittany Murphy’s sudden death, her husband is opening up. "My world was destroyed yesterday," Simon Monjack told Access Hollywood Monday.
Monjack says that Sunday morning started out as a "regular day" until Sharon, his wife's mother, found Murphy, 32, unconscious in the bathroom. "Sharon went into the bathroom because she had been in there a long time. Her mom screamed for me and I ran. Then called 911," he said.
Monjack downplayed speculation that his wife was seriously ill with "flu like symptoms," explaining, "She had laryngitis…She had been tired at the end of the year. She had made a couple of movies."
He also was quick to slam talk that Murphy was self-destructive, or that he was a controlling, bad influence on her. "I don't know why anyone would think that…She found love. We found love. Brittany didn't get to where Brittany was with anyone controlling her… Brittany was Brittany."
The British screenwriter was touched by the Tweeter tribute written Sunday by Murphy's ex-boyfriend, Ashton Kutcher (whom he did not know personally). "I loved what Ashton wrote on Twitter. It was comforting to me…I couldn't have said it better."
Kutcher wrote, "2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine. My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany’s family, her husband, & her amazing mother Sharon…see you on the other side kid."
An autopsy of Murphy's body was completed Monday; the full results and cause of death will be deferred as additional toxicology, neurological and histiological tests are performed. Results may released in four to six weeks.
