Gabrielle Union doesn’t want to waste a minute on Stacey Dash. The Being Mary Jane star, 43, was asked recently about Dash’s negative comments regarding BET and the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, and her response wasn’t exactly favorable.
“Who is Stacey Dash?” Union replied playfully to the Associated Press. “The more that we focus on inclusion and a true representation of this country, I think that crazy lady will have less to say.”
Union was speaking at the Sundance Film Festival premiere of The Birth of a Nation, arguably the most buzzed-about film from this year’s festival, which is centered around a slave revolt. Fox Searchlight won the bidding war for the film at $17.5 million, setting a new Sundance record.
And while The Birth of a Nation was making headlines, Union’s words caused #WhoIsStaceyDash to trend on Twitter and Facebook.
Clueless alum Dash, 49, has not shied away from the controversy, which started when she spoke out against BET on Fox & Friends last week.
“Either we want to have segregation or integration, and if we don’t want segregation, we need to get rid of channels like BET,” she said. Her comments were later applauded by GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump.
Dash defended her words on her blog on January 25, saying her Twitter trolls should apologize for slamming her, because she was simply agreeing with comments Morgan Freeman made in 2006.
