Hilary Swank is well in the running for Daughter of the Year. The Million Dollar Baby actress, 40, has made the decision to put her career on hold to care for her ill father, Stephen Swank, as he recovers from a recent lung transplant. “My dad is living with me . . . I’m his sole caretaker right now,” Swank revealed on Friday, July 1’s HuffPost Live. “He’s an easy guest.”
Choosing to put her acting ambitions on hold while her dad is on the mend, Swank told HuffPost Live she wouldn‘t have it any other way. “It’s a certain amount of time [to serve as a caretaker], but in a lifespan it’s a blink of an eye,” Swank said. “There’s been job opportunities I’ve passed on, and things that I said ‘I can’t,’ but really what we’re here for is our family.”
Though Swank was admittedly not close to her father in her younger years, she views their time now together as a chance to make up for lost memories. “You can’t get this time back, and I’d look back and regret not taking care of him in this time. It’s a true honor,” said Swank, calling the experience healing. “It’s easy to hang out.”
