Old boots, new win! Country superstar Jason Aldean accepted the Entertainer of the Year award at the 2016 Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday, April 3, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and made sure to show some PDA with his new wife, Brittany Kerr, before making his way to the stage.
Besting such peers as the legendary Garth Brooks and other country standouts Eric Church, Miranda Lambert and Luke Bryan, the “Burnin’ It Down” crooner, 39, looked shocked to receive the honor on Sunday. On his way up to the stage, Aldean greeted his wife, Kerr, with a huge hug and kiss.
“I was just starting to think this one wasn’t in the cards for me,” Aldean told his peers. “This is one of the best nights of my professional career.” He then thanked Kerr, his daughters, Keeley, 13, and Kendyl, 8, from his first marriage, as well as his record label and producer. “I may be rough around the edges a little bit, but I love this business. This is one of the best nights of my professional career.”
Aldean married former American Idol contestant Kerr, 27, in March 2015 in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. “She looked beautiful,” Aldean subsequently told Us Weekly in an exclusive reveal of his wedding photos. “I was so excited to see her.”
Officiating the ceremony was none other than the couple’s pal, Duck Dynasty star Willie Robertson, who’s an ordained minister. “I wanted it to be someone I was close to and admire,” Aldean told Us at the time.
