Joe Manganiello has dropped out of his role in the upcoming History Channel show Six, and production has been delayed while his role is being recast, a rep for the History Channel confirms to Us Weekly.
The True Blood alum, 39, had to pull out of the series due to a health issue and the physical demands of the role, a source tells Us. Manganiello will be fine as it is a manageable preexisting condition, a second source adds.
The eight-episode scripted military drama follows a Navy SEAL Team Six mission to eliminate a Taliban leader. The Magic Mike star was set to play the squad’s leader, Rip Taggart.
The show has yet to announce when production will resume on the Wilmington, North Carolina, set. Six also costars Revenge actor Barry Sloane, Dominic Adams, Edwin Hodge, Kyle Schmidt and Juan Pablo Raba.
Prior to filming the miniseries, Manganiello was shooting the comedy Drunk Parents. He and wife Sofía Vergara also recently attended the premiere for his new Netflix film Pee-wee’s Big Holiday at South by Southwest in Austin. The couple married in November in Palm Beach, Florida.
