Party at the Tells’! Lauren Conrad opened up about married life — and how her husband, William Tell, has changed her — in Redbook’s July issue.
The Paper Crown designer, who is known for her crafty DIYs, has learned to take her lavish get-togethers down a notch since becoming a wife. “Now that I’m throwing parties with my husband, William, I have to keep in mind that he prefers — how do I say this— easier themes than what I’ve done in the past,” the 30-year-old explained. “He doesn’t like to feel that he’s asking friends to go out of their way. So now we do a birthday hoedown because everyone owns a pair of cutoffs and a plaid shirt. I’m learning how to compromise!”
Indeed, back in 2014, the Hills alum and Tell, 36, threw a joint birthday hoedown at home. (Their birthdays are February 1 and February 7, respectively.)
Conrad had to get used to Tell’s extensive guitar collection, too. “I have a collection of teacups I display in my dining room. My husband doesn’t get why I love them so much. To be fair, I don’t share his passion for guitars,” she told the mag. “I mean, I guess I can understand why he might not see the beauty in a gorgeous, hand-painted teacup. We each have our own things, and that’s healthy.”
Conrad and the law school graduate got engaged in October 2013 after more than a year of dating. In September 2014, the couple exclusively confirmed to Us Weekly that they tied the knot on the California coast.
Conrad opened up about the couple’s first year of marriage in May 2015. “It’s been wonderful so far,” she told Us at the 10th Annual Women’s Rights Awards in West Hollywood. “I think it’s really different for everybody. For us it makes you officially family, which is really great, but as far as our relationship, we were really committed before, so it didn’t change a ton.”
