Reunited and it feels so good! Xena: Warrior Princess star Lucy Lawless lit up the Internet on Wednesday, July 29, when she posted an Instagram picture of herself with pal and former costar Renee O’Connor.
“Still hanging with my gal,” she captioned the cute selfie, tacking on the hashtags “Xena” and “Gabrielle.”
Lawless and O’Connor, who played Xena and her sidekick Gabrielle, respectively, in the ‘90s cult classic series, have kept in close touch over the years since the TV show ended in 2001, and have even appeared together at Xena conventions.
But when rumors surfaced earlier this month that a reboot might be in the works, Lawless was quick to shut down fans’ excited speculation.
“Sorry friends!” the 47-year-old actress wrote on Twitter on Monday, July 20. “News of a #Xena reboot is just a rumor. I’d love it to happen one day but it’s still in the wishful thinking stage.”
Earlier in the day, The Hollywood Reporter had released exclusive details about an upcoming Xena: Warrior Princess project that was reportedly set for release in 2016.
Since the show ended (it ran for six seasons, from 1995 to 2001), Lawless has reunited with other Xena alums, most recently for her latest project, Starz’s Ash vs Evil Dead. Xena’s Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell, who played Autolycus on the series, are costars.
