Guess who’s back? Missy Elliott dropped her first music video in seven years via Twitter on Thursday, Nov. 12, and based on her fans’ reactions on social media, the rhythmic revival was well worth the wait.
“We’re live here u go!!!!” the female emcee, 44, shared alongside a link to her new beat-driven track, “WTF (Where They From),” in the early hours of Thursday. In the music video, various people throughout New York City bob their heads to the infectious bass before a slimmed-down Elliott begins to pop and lock on the side of a street, dressed up in a full-body mirror suit.
The “Work It” singer then cycles through several different scenes — at times wearing an oversized jersey with a beanie with “Biggie” emblazoned across the front; at other times wearing a futuristic bubble suit and Lady Gaga-esque robot shades.
A hoverboard and plenty of dance breaks are also peppered throughout the nearly four-minute video.
The Voice coach Pharrell Williams makes a cameo — as a marionette — in the video, lending his unique vocals to the catchy song. Williams, 42, previously hinted that he was working with Missy for her new album during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, but kept details minimal.
See how fans are reacting to Missy’s return.
Going to politely decline and walk away if anyone tries to talk to me about anything other than Missy’s new video today.

(“New Missy Elliott” is for me what “New Adele” was for some of you last month.)
