What happened and why?
Three days later, the shocking attack of Gavin DeGraw in NYC's East Village remains shrouded in mystery — but the New York Daily News reports that the violent incident had nothing to do with the "Chariot" singer's fame.
A source told the paper that police investigating the case believe DeGraw's assailants had no idea that he was a platinum-selling singer who frequently attends high-profile celeb events in NYC and elsewhere. Robbery is not a suspected motive in the attack.
Indeed, a source close to the singer tells Us Weekly: "These guys jumped him from out of nowhere. It's weird because they didn't take anything, I think they did it for sport…Gavin is shocked and his family is devastated."
"Honestly, I don't remember much," DeGraw, 34, tweeted Tuesday, when he was discharged from Bellevue Hospital. He suffered a concussion, broken nose, black eyes, cuts and bruises from the incident, which occurred after a night out drinking with pals; after stumbling off from the attack, DeGraw was then hit by a taxi.
As he recuperates at home in Manhattan, DeGraw had to cancel two upcoming concerts next week in Wantagh, NY and Mansfield, MA.
