Scott Porter didn't need to psych himself up before asking Kelsey Mayfield to marry him in January 2012.
At the Wikipad and Nvidia cocktail party in L.A. Wednesday, the Hart of Dixie actor told Us Weekly how he knew Mayfield was The One — and why he wasn't afraid to get down on bended knee. (The couple met on the set of Friday Night Lights, where Porter played the role of Jason Street.)
"I was on the road a lot and she was on the road a lot, and we both love spending time together and growing together. One morning I just looked over and was like, 'What am I doing? This is going to be me the rest of my life; I might as well just make it official,'" Porter recalled. "A lot of guys feel pressure [to propose] and I never did. I think that's how I knew it was right. There was no pressure. It was just meant to be."
Like any good groom, Porter, 32, has been helping his fiancee create her dream wedding. "We're going to get married next April and we're going to get married back where we met in Austin, Texas. We wanted to get married under a Texas sky, and it's going to be kind of a rustic chic wedding — that's the term she throws around," he told Us. "She's got the whole thing in her head and I trust her explicitly. I've got my opinions on things, but I just want to let her do her thing."

For their honeymoon, the future spouses have considered traveling everywhere from Bora Bora to Greece, "but I don't want to be up and moving every day from sun up to sun down," Porter said. "We really want to take our time and enjoy each other . . . We'll probably visit a small island somewhere in the middle of the ocean."
Once they're married, Porter and Mayfield plan to wait a few years before having children. "We're not talking about kids right now," the actor told Us. "We're both very family-oriented and definitely want them down the road, but not right now."
Hart of Dixie — which also stars Rachel Bilson, Jaime King, Wilson Bethel and Cress Williams — will return for a second season this fall on The CW.
